…Plans for Social Activities

On March 7, 2013, 27 residents attended our informal Social Events Planning Meeting.  Many were new to Kings Way.  There were many diverse ideas, some we can implement and others were not doable but it was gratifying to witness the high level of interest in Kings Way social activity. The following is our list of upcoming events:

*     Three Friday night Cocktails Parties: April

12th, Aug 9th and Sep 20th.  Jackie Cohen and her committee will host these parties.

  •    In addition, The Cooperative Bank of Cape

Cod will host a Cocktail Party on Wed., June 5 – details to be announced soon.

*     On June 15th we are having a buffet dinner

party at the Clubhouse Restaurant, catered by The Diamond In The Rough.  Donna Hirshberg and Pat Cavanaugh are chairing this event.

*     In July, date to be determined, enjoy

“Breakfast With The Author” in the Meeting House.  Hopefully there will be more in the coming months.  Donna and Pat are working on this one, too.

*     Jo Ann Kelley will be organizing a Whale

Watch Trip and an Eco Tours Trip this summer.

*     On August 11th at 5:00 PM we are planning

to have either a Clam Bake or Barbeque at The Diamond In The Rough Restaurant.

*     Several years have passed since our last

“Arts and Crafts Show”.  This is a wonderful event that gives our many talented residents a chance to display their works.  Dolores Johnson will Chair this activity.  It will be held in the Meeting House on Sep 16th and 17th.  We are accepting all types of art works - paintings, hand woven baskets, hand crafted bird houses, carved wood works, quilts, etc.  Please contact Dolores @ (508) 375-0696 if you are interested in displaying or have any questions.

*     Our Holiday Luncheon will be held on

December 12th at The Diamond In The Rough restaurant.

*     In the near future there will a Game Night in

the Meeting House, which will be organized by Peter Savage and his committee.

*     Movie Nights will be organized by Jo Ann

Kelley.

*     Other volunteers are currently looking for

Guest Speakers – To be announced.

*     We also plan to offer some day trips in the

fall and next winter, if there is enough interest. Please watch for notices on the monitor and wall in the Post Office.  Please call me with any questions, @ (508) 375-0026.

In Remembrance… Many of you know that our friend and neighbor, Margot Kaczynski, died on April 15th.  Margot worked with me on the Social Committee several years ago.  She contributed much of her time to organizing our trips to Boston for the Red Sox games.  She was a delight to have on the Social Committee and a joy to work with.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

THE GOLF CLUB

AT YARMOUTH PORT

The month of April has been a very cold one especially compared to a very warm month a year ago.  Play at the golf course has been a little behind last season so far as a result of cold weather and a couple rainy weekends.

We are off to a very strong start with Kings Way resident membership sales. Already, we have 14 new members from the community in 2013. As the population changes, some new golfers are moving into Kings Way. Now is such a good time to join the club as we are just beginning to start the year.

We hosted our annual Masters Weekend Tournament on April 12th and 13th. Nearly 40 players compete in the fun event despite the cold weather. The team of Bill Wieners and Masters winner Adam Scott won with a combined total of 128. The format was the member’s net score and the tour professionals gross score added together.

We are just finished the semi-annual green aerification program. The greens have been punched, sanded, and fertilized, as we get ready for some sun and warm weather.

Looking forward to the return of our members and friends back to the club. The snowbirds will be arriving shortly to begin our new golf season at Kings Way. MGGM is anxious to join forces with The Diamond in the Rough Restaurant at Kings Way to provide our members and guest a dynamic and fun golf experience.

Happy spring,

Bob & Joe

“I DIDN”T KNOW THAT!!

...Your Guide to Community Living

at Kings Way

...The summer season is only weeks away!  The pools will be opening officially on Friday, May 24th, for the Memorial Day weekend...Hopefully, you’ve saved your POOL PASSfrom last year.  If you need a replacement, or if you are a new homeowner, Pool Pass Formsare available in the Social Center (one pass per unit; residents and/or guests must present the pass to the lifeguard and sign in at the gate upon entering the pool area.) Please fill out the form, and leave it in the box provided. New passeswill be placed in your in-house mail box on or before May 24th.

…Time to get those weathered decksin tip-top shape for all that outdoor entertaining!  Be sure to pick up a copy of the Newly Revised (2013) Deck Policy in the Social Center, to ensure you follow proper procedure to best protect and maintain your deck.  The Board asks that all homeowners read the policy and use ONLY THE APPROVED STAINS and follow the approved process for refurbishing decks and railings. If you have any questions about your deck maintenance, please call the management office for guidance.

Renting Your Home??

Did you know that if you are planning to rent your home, you are required to submit a Rental Profile Form to the Kings Way Condominium Trust (forms available in the office or on the website). This profile must be submitted before tenancy takes place. The information requested is important for legal, safety, and emergency purposes.  Once a form is submitted, it is reviewed for completeness and kept on file.

Insurance Coverage: Be sure to continue your insurance coverage, whether renting to tenants or leaving your home unlived-in while it’s on the market.  Once you cancel it can be difficult to insure a non-habitated unit.  The condo documents require continuous coverage, for everyone’s protection.  Remember that items such as carpeting, counter tops, cabinets, and even finished basements are YORU responsibility to insure, these are not covered by the master policy.  Furthermore, the first 10K is the homeowner’s responsibility, no matter what loss is incurred.  Check with your agent for further information…

TRASH SCHEDULE: We change back to a weekly pick-up, starting Thursday, May 2ndBarrels should be covered, and left at the end of your driveway no later than 7 am, to ensure they are picked up…It’s a good idea to label your barrels with your unit number indicated in permanent marker- helps find them on those windy days!

… As the days warm up, many more homeowners can be seen strolling with their dogs.  Unfortunately, some owners still fail to pick up after their pets.  Please be sure to carry baggies with you, and dispose of waste in your covered trash barrel – (never in the storm drains or bushes).  As a further reminder, dogs are to be kept leashed at ALL times, per the Town of Yarmouth and Kings Way Rules and Regulations.  Your cooperation is appreciated!

Kings Way Cocktail Party

April 12, 2013

It was the opening Cocktail Party of 2013 on a Spring day that brought us 40 chilly degrees and a cold rain outside the Meeting House, but with an abundance of warmth and friendship inside. Those attending brought the usual good food and drink and shared their own "current events" of the past winter as many have not seen each other for a number of months.

What made this party somewhat special was the large attendance of the many new homeowners, the introductions including a short talk about themselves and optimism about their residing at Kings Way. Already there was talk about participation in aerobic swimming, golf, tennis, mah jongg and numerous other activities found on our campus. For those with artistic talent, Marie McKenzie spoke about participating and displaying their work at an upcoming Art and Crafts Show.

Our Social Committee, always playing a big part in these events deserve a big thanks and those that helped me for this party included Peg Burke, Rita Greiss, Miriam Hart, Beverly Johnson and Pauline Salemi. Following are a number of digital pictures taken during the evening and we look forward to seeing you at other social events this year.
                                                                                                  Jackie Cohen, West Woods

KINGS WAY TENNIS

Spring is here and it is time to take out your tennis racket and enjoy our courts. We usually "kick off" the formal part of our season with an
annual meeting and this year we have scheduled it for Thursday, May 23 at 4 PM in the Meeting House. The usual format will be to vote for officers, arrange a social committee, discuss social events and hear comments that pertain to KW Tennis. We are especially interested in welcoming new individuals to our group and look forward to a season that is fun-filled with tennis and social activities.

May should bring about good weather for our sport, so do not wait for the annual meeting, but arrange your own game or sometimes just appearing at the courts about 9 AM will find a player looking for a partner.
                                                                                                  Harold Cohen, West Woods

KINGS WAY BOOK CLUB

The KW Book Club will meet at 2pm on Monday, May 20 in the Social Center to discuss "Cleopatra" by Stacy Schiff.

The Book Club invites you to a Poetry Exchange in June.  Bring a poem you've written or one by a favorite poet to read aloud to the group.   More information to come in the June Crier, but in the meantime, think about the poetry you've written or read and plan to share a piece or two.  (not Beowulf or Dante's Interno - something a little shorter.)

Cindy Craig, Oak Glen

AEROBIC SWIMMING

Aerobic swimming will take place at
10 AM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting Wednesday, May 29th. The format and exercises accompanied by music and instructions from various CD's will be the same as last year. We look forward to meeting all the returning swimmers from last year and any newcomers who enjoy the activity.
                                                                                               Jackie Cohen, West Woods

WALKING GROUP

The new Kings Way Walking Group has gotten off to a very healthy start--in more ways than one!  Although there is no formal membership structure, we currently have 43 people on our email list, and most scheduled walks are drawing 5-8 people.  Everyone who shows up will almost always have one or two others to walk with at a pace that is comfortable for them.  To allow for maximum flexibility, i.e., walk only if you want, when you want, we have scheduled April and May walks around the Kings Way circuit every day (7 days/week) at 10 a.m. AND at 6 p.m.  (Meet in front of the Meeting House.  Please note: a new summer schedule will be announced in late May.)  In addition, on most Wednesdays we will take an off-site trail or beach walk, usually in the morning unless tides are a factor.  Check the post office bulletin board for information on date, time and location of next off-site walk.

Please contact either of us if you have any questions or if you would like to get on our email list (not required to participate in any of the walks).

LIBRARY NEWS FROM

 THE SOCIAL CENTER

Editor’s note: The Social Center and library corner are the purview of the Kings Way Trust.  Over the years, a number of homeowners have taken on the responsibility for overseeing various aspects of this amenity, and it has worked out well.  It’s important to note that homeowners are always welcome to come and go, even as card games and other activities are in progress. The following is a message from the current Social Center “manager in residence” …

Everyone is welcome to borrow our books from the social center library. We operate on the honor system. When you return or donate books, cd's, dvd's, audio books, magazines, or puzzles and games, please leave them on the counter near the lamp. I will be happy to put them away.

I have organized the library in the following way.

Hard cover fiction is alphabetical by author , as is the paperback fiction. There is a separate section for biography and history . There is also a shelve above the countertop that has  nonfiction books by the following categories: Golf...Business...Travel....Medical...Cooking . There is a smaller bookcase by the sofas that has large print books, reference books, gardening and plant books, as well as DVD, cd, audio books There are also puzzles and games on the lower shelves  Enjoy our library
